‘Doppy’ has joined the Parade! This beautiful heifer has a strong link to the historic town of Dorking with many local landmarks illustrated on the cow canvas including the rolling Surrey Hills. Sponsored by AEW UK SEOF who own the newly redeveloped Dorking Office Park, this beautiful moo will also benefit Dorking charity The Brigitte Trust when auctioned off in the Autumn.
Artist Susie West who created ‘Doppy’ comments; “As a local artist painting my way around Britain’s lovely cities, towns and villages with a series of travel-poster inspired prints, I was very happy to be asked to paint Doppy, with my Dorking scenes. It’s not every day I’m asked to paint a full-size, fibreglass cow!
CowParade is the world’s largest public art event which is seeing lots of brightly decorated fibreglass cows placed in popular landmarks across the county during the Summer. The idea is that each cow is ‘Sponsored’ by a business, school or charity and decorated by a local artist. The cows are put out to graze and dotted around Surrey until the end of August for all to see. A specially designed app, is free to download from cowparadesurreyhills.com and allows each cow to be virtually collected. Discover lots about each cow, win rosettes, take part in quizzes and more. Those who find all the cows will be entered into a prize draw to win a luxury Kuoni holiday for two to Mauritius!
Tim Hodges from Altus Maxwell Brown who are the letting agents for Dorking Office Park said “Our clients AEW UK SEOF were delighted to get involved in the COW Parade project. Having purchased Dorking Office Park and invested significantly in its new phase of redevelopment to provide the highest quality Grade A offices, this was an excellent opportunity to get involved with a fun local project for a great cause given the excellent work of The Brigitte Trust. We were thrilled that local artist Susie West agreed to paint our Cow which very quickly became known as DOPPY! We hope that she gets a lot of attention and attracts a lot of people to see the transformation of the office park and the available offices over the coming months, before finally going to auction.”
AEW UK SEOF’s nominated charity The Brigitte Trust works closely with health professionals and hospices, complementing their service by offering people facing cancer and other life-threatening illness time to share feelings and concerns as well as practical help at home when everyday tasks may have become more difficult.
Brigitte Trust Chief Executive Lee Bennett comments: “We are proud and delighted to be chosen as the first Dorking charity to have our “own” cow. Doppy has been beautifully painted by local artist Susie West with images of the town including St. Martin’s Church, the famous Dorking cockerel and the stepping stones over the River Mole. It’s very special to be supported locally by AEW UK SEOF and money raised from the auction will be used to reach out to more people in the community with our free service at a time of real need”.
Artist Susie West continues; “I’m delighted that Doppy will be raising awareness for such a fabulous local charity, The Brigitte Trust. Growing up with a mum with a progressive, life-threatening illness, my whole family would have benefited enormously from this type of support. It’s wonderfully reassuring to know that such support now exists when it’s needed”.
Doppy can be found grazing at the entrance of Dorking Office Park at the triangle stores on Ranmore Road.
