Another cow has joined the herd! This beautiful moo named ‘Jess’ is the brainchild of artist Alison G Saunders who has worked her magic to create a very eye-catching creation. ‘Jess’ will join the rest of the cows, totalling 60 so far and be on display throughout Surrey this summer.
Artist Alison G Saunders comments;
“It has been a great experience and I have loved being involved in this project. I’ve never been asked to paint something so unusual before and I really did enjoy the challenge. My design uses NaviSite’s corporate colours and was inspired by the very popular zen doodling.”
Jess has been sponsored by NaviSite, a Time Warner Cable Company. Elizabeth Harding, NaviSite Marketing Director comments; “At NaviSite, supporting the communities inside and outside the company and being charitable is part of our ethos. This is why when we heard about CowParade Surrey Hills we were very eager to get involved. Because of our desire to help local communities we will be raising funds for the Surrey Community Foundation. This charity helps those in need by strengthening and supporting local communities at a grassroots level.
We also wanted the design of the cow to reflect our vibrant local community, so Alison Saunder’s intricate, colourful designs were a natural fit. Her work is inspired by the shapes, forms and colours in nature and the world around us – and the inclusion of clouds, a nod to our company’s roots, is a really nice touch.”
CowParade is the world’s largest public art event which will see lots of brightly decorated fibreglass cows placed in popular landmarks across the county during the Summer. The idea is that each cow is ‘Sponsored’ by a businesses, school or charity and decorated by a local artist. The cows will be put out to graze and dotted around Surrey from June until the end of August for all to see and then the fun really begins! A specially designed app, created by digital design agency Akiko Design, is free to download from cowparadesurreyhills.com and will allow you to ‘check in’ to each cow as it’s found. You’ll discover lots about each cow, be able to win rosettes, take part in quizzes and more. Those who find the most cows will be entered into a prize draw to win a luxury Kuoni holiday for two to Mauritius!
Tim Metson, CowParade Leader comments;
“CowParade has captured the imaginations of so many people and we are seeing so many beautiful and unique cow designs. Now is the fun bit as the cows are out around Surrey for everyone to see.”
The autumn will see the cows auctioned off for charity. Each cow sponsor gets to choose a charity of their own to benefit from half of the auction proceeds, with the other 50 per cent going to the Surrey Hills Trust Fund. NaviSite have chosen the Community Foundation for Surrey to benefit from the funds raised by their cow. The Community Foundation for Surrey is an independent charitable trust established to inspire local giving for local needs. They work with donors who want to give something back to their local communities and voluntary groups providing vital services for local people and disadvantaged individuals.
Wendy Varcoe, Executive Director of the Community Foundation for Surrey comments; “We are very grateful that NaviSite has nominated the Community Foundation for Surrey to benefit from the auction of their cow. The Foundation supports local grassroots community projects operating below the radar, where the funding makes a huge difference. With support from companies like NaviSite we are changing people’s lives and building stronger communities.”
‘Jess’ the cow is currently residing along the towpath in East Molesey, outside Thameside House – make sure you go and see her.
